the OA Story

Origin Alley came about one day during the 2020 pandemic when Varsha and Raaghav where spitting out ideas about what would be a fun store to have. This conversation happened after binge watching this mind-bending mystery comedy series by Disney called Gravity Falls. Varsha mused post watching the last episode, "Don't you think it would be hilarious if there was a museum/gift shop like the Mystery Shack where we put together a bunch of random "artifacts" to show to the public that we said came from other planets across the Universe?" This clearly got Raaghav's gears turning imagining all the possibilities of what could be sold in the "gift shop".

 

Varsha continued, "We could have regular mugs with art on it and say that it once belonged to a famed warrior of a civilization on another planet and that we get all our stock from "The Shopkeeper", a travelling salesman who collects items like the mug but replicates them for sale on various planets. Earth could be one of the store's branches." Raaghav was thoroughly hooked by this simple idea and thus, Origin Alley was born.

The first iteration of the store was very much like how Varsha described it being: mass produced items but with unique stories attached so that when customers visited the online store, it would feel like they were reading stories while shopping. Kind of like how the Mystery Shack operated within the Universe of Gravity Falls. Of course, the pandemic threw a planet-sized wrench in these plans and the store lay dormant for many months.

 

During this time, Varsha, Raaghav and a group of close friends and family found Dungeons & Dragons. One thing led to another and the couple realised that D&D was a brilliant platform for telling stories, which is what they wanted to do with the first version of Origin Alley anyway. After some tinkering, they eventually came up with an idea to restart Origin Alley. One that would combine their old ideas of storytelling with their new love of TTRPGs. What you see now in the form of stories, merchandise and events is the culmination of all that work by two individuals who want to create a community of like-minded individuals, tell their stories, and sell products that would help out the community.
